Today we read the book Rooster's off to see the World to launch us into our math lesson.

We used blocks with pictures of animals on them to sequence the events in the story. Ask me the order in which the animals appeared in the story.

Once we were familiar with the story sequence, we made up a math, picture and number problem.
If five fish joined the rooster on his journey how many animals were there all together?
Students used pictures and then a number equation to solve the problem.

Students sequence picture cards to tell stories. First...Next...Finally.
