Developing a solid understanding of patterns is critical to academic success. Our students have been busy exploring various ways of sorting objects and making patters. Today we read two wonderful books which dealt with the topic of sorting.

Sort it Out by Barbara Mariconda is the story of a young mouse who must sort out the mess in his room. Along the way he discovers numerous ways of sorting his belongings.

The Button Box by Margarette S. Reid is a heartwarming story of a young boy who sorts through his Grandma’s special box of buttons and discovers many ways of sorting the buttons. Our students enjoyed sorting buttons today during math.

Students made patterns with unifix cubes and copied their patterns into their math books.
